The FIFA World Cup event is just around the corner, and it might be different this time for viewers across the globe. While TVs and then smartphones and tablets have proved to be the preferred medium for viewing football matches over time, the advent of Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality technologies in recent times has opened up new vistas for not only watching the games but being right in the thick of things as well. Watching the games being played off the screen could be passe and to be in the stands along with thousands of other fans could be the next big thing coming our way.

As research by Bankless Times has revealed, World Cup fans seem aware of AR and VR tech along with the metaverse becoming integral to the mega event and bringing about a quantum change in the game-watching experience like never before. As Advanced Television stated, a majority 64 percent of the viewers in the UK and 62 percent of those in the US have said they look forward to having a new viewing experience in the metaverse. They wish to have a more interactive and immersive viewing experience using AR and VR technologies than would ever be possible via the good old TV.

Fortunately, FIFA too has evinced interest in it and seems to have a solution of sorts. It has launched a metaverse ecosystem that will be part of the video game Roblox. Apart from playing games, users will be able to socialize with other fans and visit different places and bars that are going to be the most happening places till the Word Cup tournament is being played.

Apart from these, the research also revealed 27 percent and 30 percent of the viewers in the UK and the US respectively would like to have a 360-degree view of the live game. It’s like being in the stands, experiencing the electrifying atmosphere as the teams duel it out with the ball in the middle. Further, 25 percent and 24 percent of the viewers in the UK and the US respectively wish to have an AR/ VR experience of the game.

With a keen interest in tech, I make it a point to keep myself updated on the latest developments in the world of technology and gadgets. That includes smartphones or tablet devices but stretches to even AI and self-driven automobiles as well, the latter being my latest fad. Besides writing, I like watching videos, reading, listening to music, or experimenting with different recipes. Motion picture is another aspect that interests me a lot and maybe I’ll make a film sometime in the future.
