Google has entered into a collaboration with NASA that aims to bring the solar system into augmented reality with webAR, ScreenRant reported. This way, users will be able to view the different planets in our solar system right on their mobile devices itself. Specifically, it is Google Arts & Culture that is collaborating with NASA in creating 3D models of the solar system for viewing on mobile devices in augmented reality. This along with several other AR and VR projects will be marking Google’s presence in the Metaverse.

Users will be able to access the various aspects of our solar system via the Google search feature. Once the user searches for a particular aspect of the solar system, which can be like the moon, Saturn, Jupiter, and such, there is going to be a ‘View in 3D’ button shown at the top of the search results. Selecting the option ‘View in your space’ will enable users to have a feel of the AR model of the same in the space designated by the user. For this, there are more than 60 3D models of the different planets and moons available to view and interact with in AR. Apart from the celestial bodies, landmark spacecraft used so far to explore outer space are also available to search, learn more about, and explore in AR.

Google said the above feature is available via an App that can be installed on any smartphone or tablet that supports AR. The app is compatible with both Android and iOS devices. Google also said once the app has been installed, the AR function can be accessed right on the Chrome browser as well. All of this comes in the wake of competitors like Meta, Apple, and Snapchat integrating AR in their core business model in a big way. With the NASA partnership, Google has hopped onto a segment that has a lot of learning potential, what with the feature enabling students and enthusiasts to get to know about outer space in a more interactive manner.

With a keen interest in tech, I make it a point to keep myself updated on the latest developments in the world of technology and gadgets. That includes smartphones or tablet devices but stretches to even AI and self-driven automobiles as well, the latter being my latest fad. Besides writing, I like watching videos, reading, listening to music, or experimenting with different recipes. Motion picture is another aspect that interests me a lot and maybe I’ll make a film sometime in the future.
