McDonald is celebrating the Year of the Rabbit for which it has partnered with the content creator Karen X Cheng. Also, while Cheng is famous for her unique creativity, the company is also relying heavily on an augmented reality filter to create a metaverse experience which it believes will help it forge new connections with potential customers while renewing the same with its loyal user base.
McDonald couldn’t have got someone better to push forward its agenda than Cheng whose videos have garnered more than 500 million views. She also has collaborated with renowned personalities and celebrities all of which has further added to her video’s appeal all the more. No wonder, she has found herself being counted among Inc’s 30 Under 30 and on Adweek’s Creative 100. This however is the first time that she has joined hands with McDonalds.
“Teaming up with McDonald’s to create a campaign that not only leans into my passions as a creator but also my cultural identity is a dream come true,” said Cheng in an official press release. “As a longtime Golden Arches fan, it’s an honor to be provided with a creative canvas that allows me to share my personal story as well as showcase my expression of the holiday to a wider audience.”
McDonald too is equally elated to have Cheng on their side. As Elizabeth Campbell, Senior Director, Corporate Engagement Strategy at McDonald’s said: “Our collaboration with Karen X Cheng offers new, tech-forward ways to experience the Year of the Rabbit while also honoring the legacy of the holiday and uplifting the AAPI community. The Golden Arches is proud to kickstart the new year with an interactive campaign that invites our fans to become active participants in a global cultural celebration.”
With the AR Instagram filter, viewers will get to see the Year of the Tiger (2022) giving way to the Year of the Rabbit, which is 2023. The 3D presentation is hosted on the virtual platform Spatial and can be viewed using a VR headset or even a compatible mobile, tablet or even PC. The sculpture is inspired by traditional Asian culture but also carries a futuristic touch as well.

With a keen interest in tech, I make it a point to keep myself updated on the latest developments in the world of technology and gadgets. That includes smartphones or tablet devices but stretches to even AI and self-driven automobiles as well, the latter being my latest fad. Besides writing, I like watching videos, reading, listening to music, or experimenting with different recipes. Motion picture is another aspect that interests me a lot and maybe I’ll make a film sometime in the future.
