It is no secret Apple is betting big on the emerging AR and VR segments. The company is also rumored to be working on an AR headset which is believed to be in an advanced stage of development. Now, CEO Tim Cook has dropped strong hints on what the company is up to with its AR ambitions and what is to be expected from it in the near term.
“I am incredibly excited about AR as you might know, and the critical thing to any technology including AR is putting humanity at the center of it. And that is what we focus on every day. Right now, as an example, we have over 14,000 ARKit apps in the App Store, which provide AR experiences for millions of people around the world,” Cook said while speaking to China Daily. “I think despite that, we’re still in the very early innings of how this technology will evolve. I couldn’t be more excited about the opportunities we’ve seen in this space and sort of stay tuned and you’ll see what we have to offer.”
All of this hints at Apple having made good progress with its AR headset as well as the supporting ecosystem so that those who buy the headset get to make the most of it right from day one. There is some information about the headset doing the rounds of the internet which hints at it featuring a pair of micro OLED displays having 4K resolution. As MacRumors added, the headset is also touted to come with 15 camera modules and will likely have an M series processor to ensure lag-free performance.

Other features the headset is expected to support include eye-tracking and hand gesture movements. It will have a spatial audio feature too and is in fact expected to have mixed reality support as well. Other details known about the upcoming headset include a curved visor along with a soft mesh all of which are going to be held in place with a strap-like that on the Apple Watch.
The headset from Apple could be priced around $3000 when launched, which is expected to happen sometime next year itself. The headset is already being demoed to board members in a sign of it being almost ready for launch.
With a keen interest in tech, I make it a point to keep myself updated on the latest developments in the world of technology and gadgets. That includes smartphones or tablet devices but stretches to even AI and self-driven automobiles as well, the latter being my latest fad. Besides writing, I like watching videos, reading, listening to music, or experimenting with different recipes. Motion picture is another aspect that interests me a lot and maybe I’ll make a film sometime in the future.
