The much anticipated Apple AR/VR headset that was being speculated to release sometime in early 2023 might be suffering some unexpected delays, the noted Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reported. That said, Kuo also stated the delay isn’t going to be too extensive so that the headset can still be expected to hit the streets next year itself, 9to5Mac reported. The analyst said an unexpected bug in the headset operating system is the reason for the Apple headset to be delayed.
It has just been days ago that we first got to know of the iPhone maker’s plans to name its new operating system xrOS, a shift from the rOS or realityOS that was being speculated prior to that. Also, while not confirmed but the ‘xr’ is supposed to stand for Extended Reality, something that should better signify the headset’s ability to support both augmented reality and virtual reality capabilities.
Kuo meanwhile had stated earlier the headset could be announced sometime in early 2023 while the actual launch of the headset could happen around the second quarter itself. However, based on feedback from supply partners, the actual launch of the headset will likely be pushed back to the second half of 2023 even if Apple decides to officially announce the device earlier than that.
It would in fact be beneficial for Apple to announce the launch of the device earlier in the first half as this would allow for ample time for the developers to come up with suitable apps to make the most of the headset. That way, a launch during the Apple WWDC event seems most likely if not Apple is keen to have a dedicated launch party for what is going to be an entirely new device segment it is stepping into.
Kuo meanwhile does not have the details of the sort of bug Apple is having to deal with. That it is quite serious does not need mentioning as it is forcing Apple to alter its launch plans altogether. The company would also rather delay the launch than introduce a half-baked product that struggles to meet buyers’ expectations. As it is, the company is entering a segment it has never ventured into before but is already replete with enough competition – read Meta Quest Pro – offering excellent user experience at a competitive price point.
With a keen interest in tech, I make it a point to keep myself updated on the latest developments in the world of technology and gadgets. That includes smartphones or tablet devices but stretches to even AI and self-driven automobiles as well, the latter being my latest fad. Besides writing, I like watching videos, reading, listening to music, or experimenting with different recipes. Motion picture is another aspect that interests me a lot and maybe I’ll make a film sometime in the future.
