Meta Platforms Inc announced it has entered into a partnership with an e-commerce technology firm that will make it easier for brands to run 3D ads on its social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram, Reuters reported. All of this is made possible thanks to the integration with VNTANA which will allow brands to have 3D models of their products uploaded to Facebook or Instagram and convert those into three-dimensional ads.

The development is significant as this is being considered as the first step towards introducing advertisement in the metaverse. For those who might still need an introduction to the metaverse, it happens to be a virtual world that is the result of augmented and virtual reality technologies and is accessible via headsets designed specifically for the purpose.

Meta had earlier collaborated with augmented reality (AR) companies such as Modiface and PerfectCorp to allow beauty and cosmetic brands to easily run 3D ads in the virtual world. However, it could be at least a decade from now for the Metaverse to reach a stage of maturity.

“The metaverse is basically the spatial internet,” VNTANA Chief Executive Ashley Crowder said. “It is a whole world of possibility that starts with having the right 3D models of your products.”

Meta’s partnership with VNTANA is crucial since this will take care of all that is needed for the 3D models of a product to be compatible with the ad system that Meta supports. Prior to this, advertisers were required to reformat the 3D files to make them compatible with the Meta ad system. Now, brands just have to upload and convert the files using the VNTANA platform.

Prospective buyers will also have it easier with a 3D ad given that they can view and almost feel the product from different angles, similar to what they might do in real life.

“In a way, this offers a glimpse of what you might expect on future devices like AR glasses,” said Chris Barbour, director of augmented reality partnerships at Meta’s Reality Labs unit.

With a keen interest in tech, I make it a point to keep myself updated on the latest developments in the world of technology and gadgets. That includes smartphones or tablet devices but stretches to even AI and self-driven automobiles as well, the latter being my latest fad. Besides writing, I like watching videos, reading, listening to music, or experimenting with different recipes. Motion picture is another aspect that interests me a lot and maybe I’ll make a film sometime in the future.
